"OK — so imagine the Internet was as easy to use as a clock. One glance tells you what you want to know: weather, traffic, inning-by-inning scores of tonight's games. At Ambient Devices, we're making this 'simple Internet' vision a reality. See, we were clever enough to jury-rig the old nationwide pager network — which covers 90 percent of the U.S. population, compared to 50 percent for WiFi — writing a wireless protocol that lets us broadcast a ton of information to the whole country every 15 minutes.

"We then manufacture custom versions of our pager receivers in just about any catchy form you can imagine. For example, our weather stations with multi-day forecasts are the newest hit product at Brookstone. Utility companies are giving away thousands of our Energy Orbs, which change color along with energy prices so customers can conserve and save on their energy bills. We've also got a device coming out with Major League Baseball and an umbrella with a handle that glows when rain is in the forecast.

Not bad for an 'old media' company, huh?"
