July 2007"I saw my boss wearing a pair of white socks with dress shoes in the office the other day," says a Goldman Sachs associate who didn't want to be identified. "I thought, 'Why would anyone put something like that together and think it looks OK?' I'm no fashionista, but that's just wrong." Indeed it is. In Pictures: Men's 10 Worst Fashion Sins But the mistakes don't stop there. Men embrace everything from a necktie being too long (or too short) to pants riding too high (or too low). "Men have a tendency to put on whatever is easy and makes them feel most comfortable," says Jon Morales, vice president of product development and design at Hickey Freeman. "They're thinking about other things when they get dressed--making the next deal, going to the next baseball game." It's easy for them to overlook small details. But, says, Morales, "It's small details that matter most," when you want to look good. Wearing stained clothes to a business meeting can mean the difference between getting or losing the account, the job or the hot girl at the bar. Says a recruiter from JPMorgan Chase, "I met with a guy just the other day, and he had an incredible resume but a white shirt with a coffee stain.
