They'd Make Such A Cute Couple! For years everyone's been talking about Ebay and Yahoo getting together. June 2007Despite analyst reports and financial pundits advocating it and studying it to see if it would work, Yahoo remains independent. Recently, there's been talk about a deal with Microsoft. But, Yahoo and Ebay seems to be everyone's favorite couple, who's not really a couple. The loudest voices have been JP Morgan and Jim Cramer of Mad Money. Well, OK, there are some people who aren't totally sold on the deal (not the least of whom are Ebay and Yahoo). Aristotle Munarriz of the Motley Fool said a deal between the two companies would like "two drunken stalwarts trying to stay standing by holding each other up." In May 2006, analyst at J.P. Morgan Chase considered all the possible pairings of the biggest Internet companies and concluded that “a partnership or merger between eBay and Yahoo is the most strategically feasible.” Even then, it was hardly a new idea. A year later, despite Yahoo’s apparent determination to stay independent, it’s still being kicked around — most recently by Jim Cramer, who, on his “Mad Money” show this week, practically begged the two companies to merge and “form something, at last, worth owning.” (Continue reading this story on DealBook)
