Ford Family Denying Rumors

While the ink dried on the Chrysler/Cerberus deal, rumors flew about the Ford family looking to sell its controlling stake.

However, the family has been taking measures to counter that kind of talk.

A Ford family attorney, David Hempstead said, "The Ford family is not discussing the sale of its holdings in Ford Motor Co." He went on to add, "Statements attributable to unnamed sources are untrue."

Don't just blame the rumors on zeitgeist, though. A significant portion of Ford shareholders recently voted on a measure that would greatly reduce the Ford family's influence over the company. Combine that with Ford's continuing slip in marketshare, and it does make sense why some might believe the family is mulling a sale.


A lawyer for Ford Motor Co.'s founding family on Monday said that reports suggesting the Ford family is discussing the sale of some controlling stake in the company are untrue.
