Murdoch Pays (Compliments) Flattery will get you everywhere, Mr. Murdoch. Or will it? May 2007In its continued effort to buy Dow Jones, Rupert Murdoch lauded the Bancroft family and Dow Jones. The Bancrofts own Dow Jones and have thus far resisted Murdoch's efforts. After News Corp (owned by Murdoch) announced earnings yesterday, Murdoch said, "We admire the Bancroft family and the Dow Jones management." However, what everyone has been really waiting for is to see if Murdoch will raise his bid. His current offer remains $60/share - a bid Murdoch said "is a full and more than fair price." Rupert Murdoch tried today to persuade the Bancroft family to sell him Dow Jones & Co. by offering appeals to their pride. What he didn't offer is more money.
