Microsoft Catches A Break

The Supreme Court ruled by a wide majority (7 - 1) that Microsoft should not be held liable for a patent dispute with AT&T.

Microsoft previously acknowledged domestic patent violations; however AT&T said the company should also be held responsible for every computer built outside the US that runs on Windows. However, the court did not agree.

AT&T claims that Microsoft's programs that convert speech to computer code are an infringement on their patent.


The Supreme Court sided with Microsoft Corp. on Monday in a case that restricts the reach of U.S. patents overseas.

In a 7-1 decision, the court found that Microsoft is not liable in a patent dispute with AT&T.
