The Maruti Esteem "Meru" luxury taxis will feature air-conditioning, digital meters, and well trained drivers, says Anjan Deb, Chief Operating Officer of V-Link Group, a leading fleet management company. The cars will also be equipped with GPS technology, city maps, wet wipes, bottled water and a selection of music for passengers. Gradually, the fleet size is expected to rise to 1,000 by year end and to 10,000 taxis in the next five years. The taxi project is part of the Maharashtra government's plan to modernize Mumbai's infrastructure.
