TUESDAY OCTOBER 07
36 Holes In... Martha’s Vineyard In this financial turmoil, why not take a breather and discover a perfect pair of spots to lay up and lie low? October 2008
By: David Baum With M&A volume off 36 percent, IPOs down nearly two-thirds and pink slips flying, odds are that one of the few things that will show growth this year is rounds played by Wall Street professionals. One spot where I know this to be the case: Martha's Vineyard. The Vineyard is home to a who's-who of well-connected socialites, power brokers and celebrities, and the Farm Neck Golf Club is a classic example. You just never know who might fill out your foursome at this private club that also accepts limited public play. It could be Vernon Jordan, or maybe Spike Lee, who owns one of the few homes that overlook the course. (His is the one with a flagpole proudly flying a large Yankees banner.) The course, with tee boxes set among wildflowers and a skein of holes abutting Nantucket Sound, features a great mix of risk/reward holes, in addition to spectacular views.
