LG Sweet On GE?

If comments from LG CEO Yong Nam are any gauge, it sure looks like it. But what are the chances that General Electric's appliance unit will go willingly?

LG Electronics Co. is taking a close look at General Electric Co.'s appliance unit, which has been put up for sale, according to its chief executive officer.

"We are looking into it very carefully. I cannot share with you more than that," said LG CEO Yong Nam at a news conference.

Some analysts have speculated that LG may be a potential buyer of the Fairfield, Conn., conglomerate's appliance business after the South Korean company's recent success in the U.S., GE's main market.

LG has become popular for selling washing machines with designs that looked European, but were sold at lower prices. LG has also become the world's top vendor of air conditioners by revenue and second-largest seller of TV sets by units after Samsung Electronics Co.
