My Three-Hour Vacation: Lost And Found

Take it from someone who came for an M&A deal and stayed for two years: A man can lose himself for a lifetime in the streets of Firenze.

But it’s also possible to lose oneself between meetings for a mere 155 minutes — especially if one knows where he’s going. 11:30 a.m.

I like to stay and hold meetings at the Lungarno hotels owned by the Ferragamo family, designed by architect Michele Bonan to look like private palazzos. On this trip, we’re at the Lungarno Suites, overlooking the Ponte Vecchio. 11:40 a.m.

The Mercato Centrale is bustling mid-morning. Be careful not to spoil your appetite for lunch; however, it can never hurt to pick up a little salumi — you know, just in case someone at your afternoon meeting gets hungry. 12 p.m.

With the city’s best gelato just a block away at Vestri, an interesting decision looms. What the heck, consider it your primi plate. But just one scoop! You have clothes to try on. 12:15 p.m. In Florence, everyone is well-dressed, including the men. At Luisa Via Roma, take in the exquisite collection of Antonio Marras, Edun and Dolce & Gabbana, and then, for an extra pleasure, make your way to the building’s skylit fourth floor — the last time I was up there, they had a foosball table big enough for 12.
