WEDNESDAY MARCH 05
Ground Transportation: A Robot For The Road Introducing a GPS so smart, it's almost alive. March 2008How can a GPS device without fancy features like Bluetooth or video playback run circles around the TomToms and Garmins of the world? By redefining navigation, that’s how. By leveraging its GPRS cellular connection, the Dash Express can talk to other Dash navigators, creating a network that reports traffic conditions in real time. We’re not just talking about incident reports, but the flow of traffic on major highways and local roads. If there’s a jam ahead, the device will provide up to three routing options. Of course, Dash is going to have sell a lot of these babies for this navigator to live up to its full potential, but even out of the box you’ll be one step ahead, because it comes preloaded with historical traffic data. The Dash Express can also perform a lot of other cool tricks with its two-way connectivity, including Yahoo Local searches. Forget static points-of-interest databases. You’ll be able to find pizza places, dry cleaners and your old college chum just by using the keyboard to type in the name on the large 4.3-inch touch screen. Or create your own search buttons (such as phoenix golf courses) at my.dash.net and send them to the device. Add in the ability to look up gas prices and movie times on the go, plus receive automatic map updates via Wi-Fi at home, and you have a future-proof GPS gadget that’s definitely worth taking with you on the road.
