Tether : Small Wonder Your BlackBerry just got a whole lot sexier — and tinier By: Mark SpoonauerPremiere Issue , Page 36 BlackBerries have always been great at delivering e-mail at lightning speed. Unfortunately, they also make you look like you’re packing heat and holding a calculator up to your ear. But at just 3.2 ounces and an unbelievable 0.6 inch thick, the BlackBerry Pearl is that rare smart phone that literally fits in your palm and your pocket, no pathetic hip holster required. As if that weren’t daring enough, the Pearl has eliminated the scroll wheel (relax — people were once just as attached to their rotary phones) and replaced it with a nimble glossy white trackball that gives the gadget its name. Plus, it’s the world’s first BlackBerry featuring a camera (just roll your trackball to zoom in) and built-in MP3 player. Rounding out the package are AOL, MSN and Yahoo instant messaging — plus Bluetooth 2.0 technology that lets you make calls and listen to tunes via wireless stereo headphones. In fact, the only strike against this remarkable little device is its slightly cramped keyboard — a small cross to bear for cool.
