Elevator Pitch : That's the Ticket

September/October 2007 , Page 28

Recorded by Gerry Wilson, CEO of yOOnew — a three-year-old company with over $4 million in seed funding that is in the process of raising a substantial series “A” coinciding with a soft relaunch this fall — on the elevator of 1345 Avenue of the Americas in New York. Riding time: 63 seconds.

“People trade trillions of dollars a day in the futures market: pork bellies, corn, cattle. Boring! What you really want to trade are World Series or Super Bowl tickets — and yOOnew is the place to do it. “yOOnew is the world’s first futures exchange for consumer products. Where else can you lock in 18 Super Bowl tickets involving your team months before the game for $350 apiece? Joe from Pittsburgh did that before the Steelers won it all in ’06. He actually took a busload of people to the game, but you can also — legally — trade your ticket future any time for cash money. “My high-school buddy and I wrote the business plan while getting our MBAs at MIT Sloan. We charge 5 to 10 percent per trade, and keep the premiums from all the teams that don’t make it. We’re now ready to share the concept with sports geeks and closet traders everywhere. And tickets are just the beginning. The market will dictate what’s available, but dads, remember: Xbox season is right around the corner.”

Re: That's the Ticket I am actually very impressed by the yoonew site. It's loaded with information, but not to the extent that it's confusing.

Re: That's the Ticket This seems like a pretty reasonable idea. I visited the yoonew site and it looks pretty legit. But right now they only offer Super Bowl ticket contracts. With March Madness soon approaching, hopefully they'll update their product line to include the Final Four.
