Turks and Caicos Islands: Feel Like "Belonging"?

"Belongers" is the local term for the native population, and if a stay on Grace Bay Beach makes you feel like you belong here as well, know that there's new island communities in the making on West Caicos and Ambergris Cays.

Long uninhabited after a brief history as a salt-collecting area, the six-mile-long, 6,000-acre island of West Caicos features untouched beaches and a 500-acre natural wildlife sanctuary. Today it's being developed as an eco-friendly resort community, built around Ritz-Carlton's Molasses Reef boutique resort, 125 guestrooms and suites stretching along a half-mile of pristine beach. The resort is scheduled to open in early 2009.

West Caicos Reserve is a collection of estate homes, cottages and custom homesites along 250 acres of oceanfront property on either side of the Ritz's Molasses Reef. Owners of West Caicos Reserve property will have access to all hotel amenities, including housekeeping and concierge services. The first phase of the West Caicos Reserve -- 30 units of two- and three-bedroom villas -- is almost sold out; sales have recently begun for Phase II, consisting of an additional 45 residences, including single-family cottages. The Island Villas range from $2.4 million to $7 million for the penthouse residences; prices for the Ocean Cottages start at $6.5 million.

Along with West Caicos Reserve will come The Quintess, LRW enclave, a "resort within a resort" enclave of five four-bedroom villas. Each villa will be on the beach and will have more than 4,000 square feet of living space -- 5,600 sq. ft counting patios and porches -- all designed in classic, luxurious Caribbean plantation style. As with the West Caicos Reserve, Quintess owners will have access to all Molasses Reef hotel and spa services.

At the Turks & Caicos Sport Club at Amergris Cay, it's like owning your own island. A picture perfect climate and a stable, environmentally conscious government are just a few of the benefits of ownership in the Turks & Caicos Islands and Ambergris Cay. Ownership is also advantageous as there is no annual property tax, nor tax on revenue generated. Plus, absolute freehold title is guaranteed by Her Majesty's Government, and there's no timeframe for building your home. And, with the freedom to choose from an array of homesites and home designs, there is, quite simply, no finer place to call home.

Getting There
Non-stop flights to Providenciales International are available from Miami, New York, Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte and Dallas. Upon arrival, guests bound for West Caicos are escorted to the marine, for the 15-minute trip to the private island. West Caicos is also building a marina that will accommodate private yachts of up to 150 feet. A helicopter is also an option, but you came to West Caicos to slow down, didn't you?
