San Francisco: R&R Escapes
Get restored from head to toe with the Spa Escape treatment, four hours of massages, facials, manicures and pedicures.
Remède Spa
A member of the Starwood Spa Collection, one of the world's largest associations of premier-level spas in over 25 countries worldwide, St. Regis San Francisco is home to the Remède Spa, a 9,000 square foot emporium of pampering. The facilities include a full-length lap pool. This is no assembly-line spa: After a one-on-one consultation and skin analysis, your "esthetician" will design a facial to address your individual needs, from reducing fine lines to addressing acne-prone skin. In addition to a thorough cleansing, exfoliation, extractions, face massage, mask, moisturizing and UV protection, each facial is made complete with a warm parafango foot wrap, foot and scalp massages, and eye and lip treatments.
Remède Spa offers a complete lineup of treatments, from seaweed mineral wraps to body bronzing. For Type A customers looking to unwind for an afternoon, they recommend the five-hour "Fit for a King" package, which includes
• Hot Stone Treatment
• Sweep Body Softening Scrub
• The Remède Manicure
• The Remède Pedicure
• Light Lunch

Getting There
Virgin's New First-Class Service
If Austin Powers and a team of spacecraft designers sat down at a drafting table with a bottle of top-shelf vodka, they would probably emerge with something remarkably similar to Virgin America's new first-class service. From the nine shades of mood lighting in the eight-seat cabin (blue to purple to pink, keyed to the gradient of sunlight outside) to the ambient music in the lavatory, it adds a bit of yeah, baby! to the nominally luxurious but often stolid business of flying at the front of a plane.
Indeed, it's also no accident that some of the airline's most touted routes connect the nerve centers of New York and Washington, D.C., with San Francisco, a short drive from the nation's techie playground. In launching its intra-U.S. service, Virgin has made a concerted effort to attract those involved in "knowledge-based businesses" -- the young entrepreneurs who made their first couple mil selling their startup to Microsoft and now aspire to found the next Google.

Side Trips
Silicon Valley
If business takes you south to Silicon Valley, here's a tip for lunch: 300 Sand Hill Road in Menlo Park.
A chilly summertime fog blankets most of the San Francisco peninsula, but the sun is shining -- as it almost always is -- at 3000 Sand Hill Road in Menlo Park. The inevitably named Sundeck, the unassuming grill with the big wooden deck nestled amid a four-building office compound, has served up the caloric energy behind every major technology company (save Microsoft) founded since the mid-'70s.
